Free summer downloads!

Every other week this summer, a new song will be available for free download here at erlendropstad.com. (actually, it's from Myspace and Ilike, but the links are here) All songs were recorded in Desmet Studios in Amsterdam for the brilliant radio show 2metersession at the Dutch channel KinkFM. First song out is a guitar version of Rocket, from the album Bright Late Nights. In two weeks the first unreleased song will appear right here. Have a great summer!

2X radio sessions and Poetry Festival in Holland

Just back from Holland and playing at Poetry International Festival in Rotterdams Concerthall. Great experience, great audience. As a bonus I got to do two fantastic radio shows. One at Radio Rijnmond (follow link to listen) in Rotterdam, and the other at Kink FM in Amsterdam. The last gig was something called the 2 meter session. Little did I know that it was the most legendary radio show in Holland where artists record some songs instead of giving interviews. It has earlier been visited by bands like Nirvana, Coldplay, REM and next week Nils Lofgren. -This week Erlend Ropstad!:) The recordings of this session will be made available here shortly for free download. In the neigbourhood? The show with my KinkFM version of songs like Rocket and The Allnightersong will air next Thursday, June 19th.

Tribute to Springsteen!

On Thursday march 20th. I took part in a very successful  tribute to  the great Bruce Springsteen in Oppdal. The gig was sold out (1100 tickets). Have a look the pics from the local paper opdalingen here.

Erlend has recorded Prince!

So last week Erlend was back in the Grieghallen studio recording "7" by Prince for a collaboration cd that will be released on Prince's 50th. birthday later this year. The picture shows how some of the vocal tracks were recorded, and how Erlend distroyed his neck for a few days. ;)

We've noticed that Erlend Ropstads album Bright Late Nights has made it in to the top 10 list of Norwegian albums of the year when the newspapers DAGENS NÆRINGSLIV, FÆDRELANDSVENNEN, AVISA NORDLAND and ADRESSEAVISEN sums up the year 2007. We totally agree ;)

Since the tour in Germany and Switzerland in September-October, I've been taking it easy and writing songs instead of touring and playing. Me and my new partners (that I'm presenting in the updated "friends menu" to my right here), have been busy making plans for 2008. -And so far it looks like a very interesting year for me and the music. The preproduction of a new album is on its way, actually it's nearly done, and gigs are getting confirmed both in Norway and in Europe. And thanks to my international promoters, songs may appear in cool places....;) And everybody within reasonable travelling distance from Trondheim are expected to show up at Credo on December 30! It's a twelve month's till x-mas special concert by Erlend Ropstad!   Enjoy the holidays see ya erlend

The quote is from London music mag The-Fly, and the articles subject is the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. They liked the festival, and the more unexpected bands delivered the goods. I 'm guessing Erland Repstad is our guy ;)

So...Erlend played at the great web-tv project balconytv.de a few days ago. On a small balcony over the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, minutes before his gig at the Reeperbahn festival, he performed Winona And I. -Good concept, bad weather but GREAT atmosphere! The gig at Angies Night Club was great to. We loved it! Hamburg Rocks!

Well, the album is out all over Europe, and we bring you great reviews from Germany: WASTEOFMIND, VIVA, T-ONLINE, GAESTELISTE, SOUNDBASE, ALL-IN (As you allready know, Erlend is playing The Reeperbahn festival in Hamburg, Popkomm Berlin, und eine gig in munster opening for menomena, and there are more gigs to come it seems! So our plan with european release, followed by great reviews, followed by tour, seems to be working!

No, not the band -the continent! Bright Late Nights will have its release in Germany in august, where Erlend previously have recieved good reviews for The Magnetic Tapes(ep), and participated on a fine colaboration cd and had airplay at the most updated radio channels ;). This release will be followed by releases in benelux, and basically where ever we find the opportunity. There will also be live appereances in Germay to begin with, and hopefully Erlend finds time and place to play in other countries as well.

Dagens Næringsliv wrote Saturday that : "The Bright Late Nights album shows an artist that rises above other men with acoustic guitars, literally and figurly speaking". - Fedrelandsvennen roles out 5 out of 6 stars, and holds the song "Winona and I" as favourite track. yoohoo! Great start on the reviews in other words !

So if you wanna see what I was up to last weekend, check this out. For those of you that don\t read Norwegian to well, it sais that I held a concert in my hotell room at the ByLarm festival for international journalists and delegates at the festival...And basically it sais that it was a great success, and I totally agree. I served brown cheese, salmon, lefse and Akevitt, some of them kind of grinned a bit at the cheese, but they seemed to like the music ! so...yei /er/

This one has been great! -But I still have a felling the next one will be even better, with my cd coming out and all that. The tour with Thomas Dybdahl was great! Big bus, great band and crew. Norway is a LONG country and the sun goes down in the morning in the north, but still. I sold a lot of cd's, and for everybody that came to a sold out merch-stand in Tromsø and Gjøvik, please go to platekompaniet.no or cdon.no or itunes, or wherever you get your music. Busy day in OSLO comming up. I start the day with an appearance on the morning tv-show at TV2, continue to the NRK P1 radio show "musikknytt", on to a live perfomance at kanal 24 and end the day at GARAGE where I will do a support gig for the great New York band ESSEX GREEN ! This summer The Magnetic Tapes was made available in Germany, Benelux, Great Britain and Japan. Reviews have been great all over and British indipendent music specialist Boomkat writes the following:  I can say is that this EP is a frankly lovely collection of singer/songwriter tracks. They’re in English, before you start getting all xenophobic, and of course being Scandinavian he has a better grasp of the English language than most of the Midlands and beyond – he might as well be from Portland Oregon as Oslo. The American connection is an important one actually, the half-heard ghosts of classic American singer/songwriter music of the 1960s (Dylan, Neils, Simon and Garfunkel etc) are present throughout this six song showcase, and the Northern chap does a great deal to achieve even a similar sound quality as we recognise from this era, and I can’t begrudge him that. There’s something so cold about modern production techniques that the tape saturated goodness of ‘classic’ recordings becomes more alluring by the minute, and Ropstad exploits this marvellously recreating the warmth we all love so much. Fans of Jose Gonzales, Kings of Convenience and good quality classic singer songwriter music will no doubt fall in love with this EP, let’s hope there’s a full album on the way.

Great day for horror movie lovers! Two songs from The Magnetic Tapes are included in the soundtrack for this great Norwegian Horror flick called FRITT VILT. It opens on oct 13. all over the Country, and rumour has it that it's scary as hell. How they managed to use the songs 'Come On Back In The Morning' and 'Oh Coreen', will be very interesting to see :) We are all very excited...check out www.frittvilt.com.

I'll be playing on thursday july 6th, on Kick in the midle of Kristiansand. Stop by at 14.30 ish, if you're in town for the Quart festival. I'm also playing in Flekkefjord as a Kick-off to the Fjellrockfestival july 15th, and Ravnedalen (Kristiansand) at friday aug 4. Ravndalen has become a great tradition to me, and I really hope to see a big crowd there again this year. Last confirmed gig for the summer is on Aug 19, Skuretfestivalen in Trondheim. By the way, The Credo gig was good. Good advise from Teitur to include the full 5 course dinner as a part of the pay...London was also very good. Very hot, great people. I had the pleasure of playing with a backing band once again on the Swingin Oppdal festival a few weeks ago. Big thanks to swingin Jango and Groovin Freddy. Hope to use your skills later. And, the album...what can I say. It's very close to finished in the studio. Very close. Davide Bertolini is doing a fantastic job, as always, getting the strings and all that on it, between gigs with The Kings of Convinience, and other stuf. The important thing for me is that it sounds good.-And it sounds good. Release date schmelease date is what I say. It's comming!-er-

Time to record

First studio session for the album is over. And I'm SO HAPPY to say it's going very well. 9 songs in the bag, 5 more waiting in Bergen for me to finish the job. BT wrote this about the first session.

On Thursday April 12., music that I have written together with Odin Sande of Bønkers, will be heard as a custom made soundtrack for the TV2 documentary "Helt på vidda". A fantastic movie made by Kjetil og Ditleff.
